Recently, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided data suggesting that, Ghana has made progress in safe water access at national level with an improvement in water supply to 80 percent of the population. B ut in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, a community is at risk to waterborne diseases as residents rely on a dirty pond for their water needs as a result of poverty and neglect. Abutia Amegame, a small farming community, is one of the marginalised rural communities in the Ho enclave of Ghana. It is ‘left behind’ in access to basic facilities particularly clean water and healthcare.   As a contribution to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 6, a borehole was constructed and handed over to the community by the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Clubs of Accra West, Ho and Rotary Districts 5170, which brought joy and relief to the residents. However, in 2017, it broke-down and since then, the community has been unable to r

With less than a week to the commencement of the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) final year pupils of Akplorfudzi E.P/M.A Basic School say the odds are stuck against them. The 22 BECE candidates of the school, located in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have raised serious academic and infrastructural concerns which they strongly believe would cause them to perform poorly in the final exam. The thought of writing subjects they have little knowledge about sends constant shivers down their spines. A major concern raised by the distressed students are the lack of computers at an empty room labelled as 'ICT Lab', lack of books at the school’s library and the lack teachers. Sadly, most of the students have never seen even a computer mouse  before. They say they have not even seen a computer before. However,  Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is one of the subjects they will be assessed in during BECE to be conducted by the W

A former convict who is backing calls for the nullification of the death penalty has shared his “ghastly” experience and how it feels to be put on death row. Reformed and now a Pastor, Reverend David G’Mercie said he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1990 during the PNDC era. He recounts how he and his colleagues “died” several times in the cells due to the psychological terror and the horrifying experiences they were exposed to as condemned prisoners. Narrating his ordeal at the launch of the Death Sentence and Executions 2017 Report by Amnesty International's in Accra Thursday, he said, “It was a very gruesome experience. When I got into the condemned prison on the 1st of February, the 3rd of February 1990 there was an execution and in fact, I thought it was because of me they had come.” The PNDC era saw many condemned prisoners executed unlike presently when Heads of State are unable to sign the death warrant for convicts to be killed.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who used to be a “fresh boy” prior to his current status as Ghana’s Vice President has suddenly become an Oldman, Ghanaian musician Belinda Nana Akua Amoah popularly known as Mzbel has said. According to Mzbel, the load of work at the presidency, coupled with the pressure on the NPP government to fulfill their numerous campaign promises seem to be seriously affecting the Veep’s looks. The '16 years' singer, in a Facebook live video with three other friends who were all guys, mocked Dr. Bawumia over what they described as his inability to withstand the political heat and prove to Ghanaians that he is competent. “They were always saying Mahama is incompetent and now that they’ve come they can’t see anything. They were bragging about working under Kufuor and thus know more. They thought it was easy,” Mzbel and her friends said amidst laughter. “Now Bawumia fresh boy has turned into an Oldman at ones. The pressure is too much. His hair has
