Image
Every year, at least 50 pupils at the Lawui D/A Primary School in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region, are unable to further their education to Junior High School after completing Primary six. The reason being that the community has no JHS facility as the Lawui D/A Primary School which is the only school that provides basic education to children from nine other surrounding villages cannot accommodate more pupils. Apart from lacking JHS blocks, pupils are forced to learn under sheds roofed with straws because the two 3-unit classroom blocks are not enough to accommodate the over 350 kindergarten and primary school pupils. The headteacher and staff of the school have no office. They sit under a tree, a situation which is reportedly making teaching and learning difficult.                         Teachers sit under this tree Mr. Peter Senu, Headmaster of the school, laments how most of the students drop out of school due to the lack of JHS facility in t

We have no evidence against Otumfuo – Ghana International Bank

Officials of the Ghana International Bank have said the Bank has no evidence of money laundering against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, debunking media reports that suggest otherwise. They said the ongoing tribunal hearing that has gained much public attention, has nothing to do with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as it is about the former Executive Director of the bank, Mark Arthur’s breach of the Bank’s internal policies and procedures. Clarifying the Asantehene’s involvement in the money laundering case, the bank in a statement said, “There has never been any suggestion by the Bank that the King was or is involved in money laundering. How a pastor hired 20-year-old lady to act as a witch for money

The Bible strictly warned of the signs of the end time, which clearly indicates that in the last days, there would be fake pastors and miracle workers and many who call him lord but are not his servants. This scripture in the Bible seems to be manifesting in today’s Christian worship as the rate at which “fake” prophets are evolving and people craving for signs and wonders is very alarming and a cause to worry. Many Christians have developed the habit of demanding miracles from their pastors which explains why they end up being conned by these pastors they so much trust and revere.  Most of these fake pastors are capitalising on the weaknesses of their followers by conspiring with people to forge sickness or claim to be in difficulties so they can publicly perform miracles and gain more attention. This is exactly what happened to a 20-year-old woman. The nursing trainee student, narrating her story on Accra-based Vision 1 FM, said she was invited by her friend

How the GJA election divided journalists - Paul Adom Otchere’s analysis

Image
Host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show, has opined that journalists who went to the polls to elect executives for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) voted based on a statement released by the Association cautioning journalists to desist from witch-hunting businesses in the country. According to Paul Adom Otchere, the statement greatly affected the just ended elections as it influenced the judgement of some journalists causing division amongst them. “The election was between those who liked the GJA press statement and those who didn’t like the GJA press statement. Those of us who thought the press statement was correct, part of the ethics emphasising correct journalism, and we have had good offices and companies around the world, radio stations have conducted programmes where they have called from around the world and we’ve all heard what those people said about the statement.” It could be recalled that President of the GJA, Affail Monney suffered some backlash after he

Free education should not be limited only to SHS - Nduom

Image
Providing free education only at the secondary level is just one step to solving the ladder of problems in the education sector, President of Groupe Nduom Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has said. More importantly he says, every school-going child, right from infancy, should be given a fair chance to attend school at minimum or no financial cost at all as this will help significantly to reduce the rate of school dropouts Ghana records on a yearly basis. According to Dr. Nduom, the challenges that confront school children from the basic level dissuades them from continuing school hence most of them abandon school before they get the opportunity to enrol in SHS. “My focus is not on Free SHS. My focus is on every child been educated from kindergarten all the one to the end of Senior High School because if you don’t get through kindergarten, through primary, you don’t get through Junior High School, you can’t get to Senior High School and many of them fall o
