Social media go gaga over Ayigbe Edem and 'twin brother' Mbokani

Popular Ghanaian musician Ayigbe Edem became the subject of discussion yesterday after football fans spotted a Congo player, Mbokani who they claimed resembles the former as the Black Stars clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo in Oyem. Ghanaians could not hide their joy after the Stars won 2-1 victory to qualify to the semi-final stage. As if the victory in itself wasn’t enough to celebrate – Twitter became flooded with humorous tweets, Facebook users updated their status and WhatsApp messages matching the player and musician. Seriously Ayigbe Edem and Mbokani may be twins for all you know!

I am not contesting for Presidency in 2020 – Dr. Kwabena Duffuor

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has rubbished media reports suggesting he would be contesting in the 2020 Presidential Elections to be elected as president of Ghana. The former Finance Minister under Former President John Attah Mills’ administration said he has retired from active politics - thus, has no intentions of becoming a president of this country. “For the avoidance of any doubt, I wish to put on record that I have no intention, whatsoever, to contest for any elective public office,” the statement read. Salifu Maase, the host of Montie FM’s political talk show, has rejected media reports suggesting there was a Twitter war between him and British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin. A previous news story claims the controversial radio host popularly called Mugabe, "started a turf war with the British High Commissioner to Ghana on Twitter over the former’s decision to visit his family in the UK. Mugabe is reported to have told the Commissioner in a tweet that “UK is not heaven”. But according to Mugabe, the said Twitter account does not belong to him even though it is in his name. “I would like to state categorically that I have no Twitter account with the name “Mugabe Maase”. I want to say without mincing words that I do not have or belong to any social media platform. I don’t patronize Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, Viber, or Tango,” he said in a statement. Ghanaian singer and politician, Diamond Appiah has refuted media reports suggesting she lost miserably to her opponents in her bid to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for Trobu Constituency in Amasaman, Greater Accra Region. EIB Network yesterday reported that the artiste’s attempt to be a Member of Parliament ended in miserable way as she polled 429 votes out of the 75, 792 votes casted in her Constituency. The recording actress from a social media post said she performed better than her contenders as she had the third highest of votes collated. “For your information I got the third highest of votes collated and did better than candidates of CPP n PPP which are established political parties with more sympathizers than the new party's ticket I contested on,” she said. Some ‘big’ NDC MPs leaving parliament

Some popular Members of Parliament (MPs) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be leaving parliament as they have lost their parliamentary seats to candidates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC which is currently the majority in parliament won 148 seats in the 2012 general elections. However, in the just ended 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections some NPP parliamentary candidates managed to wrestle the seats belonging to popular NDC MP’s. Foreign Affairs Minister and incumbent Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency, Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, lost her seat to George Nenyi Andah of the NPP after she polled 25,664 representing 49 per cents of the total valid votes with her opponent having 28,867 representing 62.72 per cent. Some of the smaller parties contesting in the 2016 presidential elections have conceded defeat and have sent their congratulatory messages to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Results so far from Wednesday December 7, 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, showed that the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is leading with NDC’s President John Mahama following. The flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom in a short statement, said he has conceded defeat to the NPP as results made available to him indicate victory for the NPP.
