A birthday spoken word piece for my ex-boss Kyenkyenhene Kwabena Boateng

Image
Today is my ex-boss’ birthday and I can’t afford a gift that suits his personality. I decided to play with words and share my first impression about him, how we became close and also let him know how much I appreciate him for the hard training he took me through.   The first time I met him I was so pissed A boss, so difficult and super strict Disliked by many at first sight Why does he bullshit many scripts? A question I asked out of plight   So, I got closer and became a sister Then I discovered he is a treasure Not just, an ordinary Mister And ever since, it's been my pleasure To appreciate God's gift of a son so bold One with a heart as pure as gold And radiates like the rays of the sun He is delightful and full of fun   The days he stood by me when I was down And made me smile on days I frown This is why he deserves the crown He is a king, an exception to the rule All the same, he does not misrule   Many think he is too gritty

The new water system for Abutia Amegame  Residents of Abutia Amegame can now heave sighs of relief as their plea for potable water has been heard. Their joy has been revived as Jodi Constructions Limited has come to their rescue with the rehabilitation the broken-down water system for the community. Earlier, Ghanavi TV reported how residents of Abutia Amegame draw water from a dirty pond and depended on other sources of water which are unreliable and unsafe for human consumption.   The story revealed that, the Ho West community could not afford GHC1,240 for repair works on the only borehole, constructed and handed over to them by the Rotary Foundation and Rotary Clubs of Accra West and Ho, when it broke-down in 2017. Residents accused Unity Rural Bank, formerly Adaklu Rural Bank, of deliberately frustrating them and failing to reimburse an amount of GHC1,297.75 which is the total of savings deposited at the now defunct bank mea

Recently, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided data suggesting that, Ghana has made progress in safe water access at national level with an improvement in water supply to 80 percent of the population. B ut in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, a community is at risk to waterborne diseases as residents rely on a dirty pond for their water needs as a result of poverty and neglect. It is ‘left behind’ in access to basic facilities particularly clean water and healthcare.   As a contribution to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 6, a borehole was constructed and handed over to the community by the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Clubs of Accra West, Ho and Rotary Districts 5170, which brought joy and relief to the residents. However, in 2017, it broke-down and since then, the community has been unable to r

With less than a week to the commencement of the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) final year pupils of Akplorfudzi E.P/M.A Basic School say the odds are stuck against them. The 22 BECE candidates of the school, located in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have raised serious academic and infrastructural concerns which they strongly believe would cause them to perform poorly in the final exam. The thought of writing subjects they have little knowledge about sends constant shivers down their spines. A major concern raised by the distressed students are the lack of computers at an empty room labelled as 'ICT Lab', lack of books at the school’s library and the lack teachers. Sadly, most of the students have never seen even a computer mouse  before. They say they have not even seen a computer before. However,  Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is one of the subjects they will be assessed in during BECE to be conducted by the W

A former convict who is backing calls for the nullification of the death penalty has shared his “ghastly” experience and how it feels to be put on death row. Reformed and now a Pastor, Reverend David G’Mercie said he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1990 during the PNDC era. He recounts how he and his colleagues “died” several times in the cells due to the psychological terror and the horrifying experiences they were exposed to as condemned prisoners. Narrating his ordeal at the launch of the Death Sentence and Executions 2017 Report by Amnesty International's in Accra Thursday, he said, “It was a very gruesome experience. When I got into the condemned prison on the 1st of February, the 3rd of February 1990 there was an execution and in fact, I thought it was because of me they had come.” The PNDC era saw many condemned prisoners executed unlike presently when Heads of State are unable to sign the death warrant for convicts to be killed.
